Name means: “It is named after Pierre Lorquin, a French nature explorer who came to California during the Gold Rush.”

Lorquin's admiral is a butterfly with brown-black wings and a row of white spots across them. The tips of its front wings are orange, as if dipped in paint. It is small, but very brave.

What does it eat?
Grown-ups sip from flowers like California buckeye and privet, and they also lick bird droppings and dung. The caterpillars eat leaves of willow, poplar and fruit trees.
