The blue morpho is a big butterfly with shining, bright blue wings edged in black. When it closes its wings, you see only brown, so it seems to vanish. It floats slowly through the rainforests of Central and South America.

The butterfly is harmless. Its caterpillar has bristles that can make skin itchy, so do not touch caterpillars.
What does it eat?
The butterflies drink the juice of rotting fruit that has fallen to the ground. The caterpillars eat fresh young leaves.
