Blue ghost firefly

Phausis reticulata

The blue ghost firefly is a small brown beetle that glows in the dark. Most fireflies blink, but the blue ghost males glow with a steady light as they drift slowly over the forest floor. From far away the light looks bluish white, like little ghosts.

Its glowing larvae live in the leaf litter on the forest floor and, like other firefly larvae, hunt tiny animals there.
