The Italian scorpion is a small dark scorpion, reddish brown to bluish black. It is shy and calm and spends most of its life hiding. It often lives close to people, in old walls and buildings.

It is the biggest scorpion in its group, but still only about 5 centimetres long at most.
Scorpion mothers give birth to live babies, and the babies climb right onto her back.
One mother can have from 9 to 62 babies at once.
It can live 4 to 8 years in the wild, and one lived over 10 years in a lab.
